When I carry a man-purse, I don't make the kind of show of it a print would elicit. Pretty sweet for what it is, though. Isn't that a Justice image, though?

She's in here somewhere. Whatever.
*gasp* I MUST have that bag....! Alex Ross + J'onn = instant awesomeness in my opinion. And, yes, the picture is definitely not from Kingdom Come...
ReplyDeleteOf course I jus recently bought all five seasons of the Justice League right before they released the big swanky box set...of course.
JLU was a favorite of mine, and I thought J'onn was characterized on the whole, pretty well. I'm curious, though: what issues did you have Carl Lumbley?
I've seen the first season of Justice League and most of the superior JLU. I don't recall having any trouble with J'Onn J'Onzz's characterization, but found Lumbly's painfully affected voice annoying as hell. He always sounded like a guy in a sound booth pulling a stupid face and trying to sound like a Shakespearean alien. I had similar problems with Phil LaMarr's Green Lantern and Susan Eisenberg's Wonder Woman. Really phony, put-on voices. I preferred the more natural deliveries, like Maria Canals' Hawkgirl, or just the better practiced ones, like the classic Kevin Conroy Batman.
ReplyDeleteI gave up on season sets after finishing the run of Gilmore Girls, which I'm still two seasons behind in watching. I started out paying $40 each, then waited for sales in the twenties, and waited out some used in the teens. I spent about $100 completing Newsradio, now available complete for half that. Still, I noticed tempting sales on Justice League, so hopefully you caught a break there, at least.
Speaking of tempting, that bag really is pretty sweet...
Mmm...I see your point about the voice direction. Maria Canals was spot-on for the Hawkgirl, in my opinion. If you watch the featurettes and see what Phil LaMarr looks like in real life it's rather amusing...he must weigh 120 pounds soaking weight.
ReplyDeleteI never could figure out what the writers at DC intended J'onn to sound like with the use of those "squiggly" tailed speech bubbles. I've looked online for explanation but could never find one. Whispering? Speaking with voice and telepathy at the same time? Just a stylistic motif to make his speech look more alien? These are the kinds of questions that keep me awake at night.
Some writer in the late '90s (Morrison/Millar?) described J'Onn's voice as sounding like the shifting sands of Mars, or somesuch. Make of that what you will, because it makes little literal sense to me...
