2010 DC Heroclix: Brightest Day Action Pack Martian Manhunter

I don't know how I missed this, but Luke at Being Carter Hall pointed out that Newsarama has a preview of Wizkids' new Brightest Day Heroclix set. I never saw a Black Lantern J'Onn J'Onzz from the Blackest Night set, so maybe that's why Martian Manhunter's is the only figurine that's bisected into his pre-and-post-dead forms. That, or maybe they couldn't validate creating a new figure with "wears pants" power action?

After the Blackest Night Starter comes the Brightest Day! Heroes thought long dead are resurrected by the power of the White Lantern to fight evil anew. Why these heroes? What is their connection? Find out with the DC HeroClix Brightest Day Action Pack! This action pack includes seven highly-detailed 3D miniatures-- Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Captain Boomerang, Osiris, Firestorm, Deadman-- each with a character card. Plus, two all-new Brightest Day-themed game maps!
MSRP: $24.99

  1. Do you know what Martian Manhunters logo is. Is is that thing on his belt buckle. If so do you know what it is and why that is used for his logo

  2. When the Manhunter from Mars was first created, he was given a circular white belt buckle divided into several "pie slice" pieces by simple lines. The buckle remained about the same for years before disappearing in the 1960s. As part of a revival of the original Silver Age look in the late '70s, the buckle returned, canonized as being divided into eight "slices" in the official DC style guide.

By the late '90s, the buckle had been altered at various times by different artists, often colored gold or red. A new symbol also came into use briefly, that of a male symbol (red circle with northeasterly pointing arrow) with a representation of Mars in the middle. That basic design was toyed with for years, but never quite stuck. Most recently, designers for the Justice League Unlimited cartoon incorporated elements from both of these primary symbols. No one symbol has dominated, though.

  3. From the cartoon series I only ever saw him with that yellow belt buckle. Do you happen to have a picture of the red circle with northeasterly pointing arrow because i have never seen that one

  4. The "male" symbol actually is the symbol for Mars in astrology. (Just like the female one is the symbol for Venus). I'm surprised DC didn't stick with this one because it actually represents something, unlike the pie symbol. (Though I do like the pie symbol a lot). Maybe DC was worried about a trademark infringement lawsuit by Volvo...

  5. It appears the new symbol is going to be a stylized double "M" in the signet on his chest.
