STORMWATCH #6I'm glad to hear they changed Stormwatch HQ to "The Eye of the Storm" from SkyWatch or The Carrier for a reason. That interests me more than a team line-up that couldn't survive half a year involving three newly created characters with front-loaded catastrophic issues who were likely always intended for the door. I hope Martian Manhunter wasn't involved merely as a stopgap himself. This is the first solicited cover from which he has been absent, but if any book lacks a guarantee of shipping with such an image, it's Stormwatch. Also, everybody is getting their asses kicked by a Daemonite. Translated into DC terms, Daemonite were like weaker but more common Durlans. It's an indignity I'd spare J'Onn, even if the DCnU Daemonites do look like White Martians.

What lurks within the Stormwatch space station? As the origin of their alien HQ is revealed, what’s left of the decimated Stormwatch roster regroups and a new team is formed! Apollo, Midnighter, Martian Manhunter...who’s in, who’s out and who’s the new team leader? Note: The catastrophic events of this issue – especially the secret of Stormwatch HQ – will be felt in upcoming issues of GRIFTER and VOODOO!
SUICIDE SQUAD #6Suicide Squad a crossover with Justice League International in their first year of publishing. I like the symmetry, and might give this a look. It really, really, really helps that I'm not really into Harley Quinn, but Slimfast Amanda Waller will set me off.

“The Hunt for Harley Quinn” starts here! After causing a prison riot and escaping an “escape-proof” supervillain penitentiary, the maniacal Harley Quinn is on the loose! The race is on as Deadshot – leading an all-new Suicide Squad – tracks his former teammate as Harley hunts the love of her life: the Joker! Plus: Don’t miss the unofficial crossover with STORMWATCH #6, tying into the explosive events of that issue!
GRIFTER #6They seem to really be trying to bind the former Wildstorm titles together, likely building toward a new WildC.A.T.s book (especially when/if Voodoo and Grifter's titles bite the dust.) This kind of reminds me of a long build they had where Maul was brainwashed and involved with some deaths in Jackson King's family. It all ended up being a wet fart, so the specifics elude me. I guess maybe the Edge sub-group might all get involved, so watch out for Deathstroke.

This is Flash Fact: When Barry Allen wakes at his desk, he discovers the world has changed. Family is alive, loved ones are strangers, and close friends are different, gone or worse. It’s a world on the brink of a cataclysmic war – but where are Earth’s Greatest Heroes to stop it?
It’s a place where America’s last hope is Cyborg, who hopes to gather the forces of The Outsider, The Secret 7, S!H!A!Z!A!M!, Citizen Cold and other new and familiar-yet-altered faces! It’s a world that could be running out of time, if The Flash can’t find the villain who altered the time line!
FLASHPOINT: THE WORLD OF FLASHPOINT FEATURING WONDER WOMAN TPThis is the one where a weak, stupid, fetish geek J'Onn J'Onzz tries to murder his tormenter of decades, the Outsider. I actually hope the Outsider shows up again in the future, on the basis that he's a formidable villain who might entertain in a story with half a brain someday.

I expected there to be a few casualties in the early part of Stormwatch. I believe that J'Onn, Apollo, Midnighter, Jenny Quantum and Jack Hawksmoor will be around, with Jack likely being the new leader. I suspect that Adam One is history, that Harry Tanner (aka the Eminence of Blades) will become the new Tao as you suggested, and the Projectionist might make it.
ReplyDeleteI hope that J'Onn will not be jobbing with the Daemonite, but will instead be the one who shows up to pull some books into a connection with Stormwatch. (He is the only one known to the metahuman community and superheroes at large -- so maybe he will be on a recruiting drive. Or he may get an image of the Daemonite while he is out and about and wonder if they are tied to the White Martians, whom they now resemble.) Meanwhile, Apollo and Midnighter can discover that they still have some things to learn.
As for the Flashpoint stuff, I am really not too interested. While I heard that some of it was good, a lot left me cold. I think that the Outsider could make a good villain, but only if J'Onn and friends are shown as intelligent adversaries. (Batman has compared J'Onn to an amalgram of himself and Superman. So, I hope that we will see some of that Martian brainpower evident in the portrayal of the detective from the planet Mars.)
I can't see the Engineer going anywhere, either. Maybe Tanner recruits the Projectionist for an opposing team?
ReplyDeleteI think that the Engineer will be around. (I would like to see her face, as I like how she has been drawn in the past.) I am not sure about the Projectionist.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will see some more Wildstorm and or Milestone characters joining Stormwatch. (Icon and J'Onn have some similarities, perhaps too many, but maybe Hardware could be a good fit?) I think that maybe Battalion or Fuji might be good additions to the team.
