2012 DC Comics New 52 Television Commercial

This is not a great time to be a Martian Manhunter fan. I was talking the other day about Alien Atlas figures warming pegs at Big Lots, but I suspect someone crunched some numbers and realized that The Aquaman Shrine dwarfed my traffic even back when Aquaman was still a joke, and that there are few characters in the DC Universe who wouldn't be more beneficial in mass marketing than a Manhunter from Mars. I got spoiled by J'Onn J'Onzz being highly visible in the Justice League for three straight decades, and forgot the part where Booster Gold has carried more comics for longer. The few places this will air on TV will surely be the thirty second cut, so only on YouTube will this more comprehensive two minute version of the glorified motion comic with snicker-worthy "rawk" music be seen. It includes Mister Terrific, Deadman, Grifter, Jonah Hex, Voodoo, Batwing, the Fury of Firestorm... and not a single, solitary millisecond of the Martian Manhunter.

On the bright side, Hal Jordan is just that guy in the one panel with Batman. Damned right they should have cast Jamie Foxx over Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern. John Stewart!

Before anyone says anything, here's the DC Nation Teaser Commercial from last year that did feature a subliminal Sleuth from Outer Space. I love the design work on the Doom Patrol, anyway...

  1. For all the wonderful story potential that J'Onn J'Onnzz has, he has been among the mostly poorly used figures in comic book history. This is someone with a complex, tragic history who still seeks to help an adopted home. My hope is that we will see good work done with J'Onn in Stormwatch.
