The problem with genius is the fact that it lends one the arrogance to make the assumption that they are the only one who brings brilliance to bear. For instance, Commander Blanx watched all the contests atop the rain shadow that divided the Bronze Desert from the Silver Sauna, conserving his strength and plotting his victory. Meanwhile, Despero had his share of past defeats, and cunningly appeared to police one region while using his telepathy to access Blanx's perspective in conjunction with his own. A mental "suggestion" sent Professor Ivo away from Blanx, then led Blanx in pursuit of his teleportation sphere. The distraction allowed Despero time to defeat his old foe Malefic, until he could manipulate Blanx into entering Despero's Py'tar form into the sphere's computer. Blanx didn't know what hit him-- and hit him, and hit him-- when his mind perceived his foe as a smaller, weaker Kalanorian.
