: ) xmas/channukuh present for my friend, it's his four fav superheroes as a rock band. That's Booster Gold on vocals, Aquaman on guitar, Martian Manhunter on bass, and blue beetle on drums. The guitars are based off of Fender guitars, and the drums are basically ludwig drums. Drawing instruments is really hard!!
Kristin Palach posted this to her swell personal art blog in early 2009. There are a lot of tasteful nudes there though, so you may just one to stick with the super-hero stuff, like Comics Alliance did in a spotlight gallery. J'Onn J'Onzz is so a bass player, and I dig that his guitar partner is Aquaman. While Booster is banging groupies, Jaime is signing autographs for every attending fan, Arthur's on the phone with his wife about the kid, and J'Onn is in a hotel room talking to a Spin reporter about radio waves from Mars and the secret history of the Earth.

My knowledge of bands is equivalent to your knowledge of sports....is J'onn playing the bass guitar? I love the X-straps on the guitar. Nice touch.
What a random little selection of four characters, though.
I won't lie-- I just recited what the artist said. Still, J'Onn's guitar has four fat strings to Arthur's minimum of six, which says bass to me. J'Onn's the guy off to one side, keeping rhythm for the rest of the group, unconcerned about the spotlight. Arthur could have been the drummer, because he's got a total Ringo complex, but he's ideally suited for lead guitar.
The character selection works for me, because you've got the Blue & Gold on one side of the cross, and the unpopular JLA outsiders who often get lumped together on the other side. If the recipient wasn't an Aquaman fan, J'Onn could still be paired off with Batman or Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. Aquaman has no other natural counterpart amongst the JLA founders, so you'd have to go trolling in the B-list (Hawkman? Atom? Power Girl?) to make a connection.
As a self styled "rock and roller," I can confirm J'onn is playing a bass guitar; however, he is playing it upside down. This could be explained by the strings being switched around (in the manner of Jimi Hendrix) or by the fact that he is a Martian...
"...Strung upside down for a left-handed m.f.ing genius, Jimi Hendrix."
Sorry. I had "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" on in the background while I was studying the other day."
