"This was originally the cover art to Supergirl #62, but ended up not being used--a shame! It was pencilled and inked on DC board measuring approximately 11x17 inches. Be sure to check out inker Richard Friend's gallery for more of our art!"

As originally solicited:
SUPERGIRL #62
Written by NICK SPENCER
Art by BERNARD CHANG
Cover by AMY REEDER & RICHARD FRIEND
Nick Spencer (Morning Glories) assembles the cream of the crop of the next generation of DCU super-heroes in this issue – Robin, Static, Miss Martian, Blue Beetle, Batgirl, the new Impulse – to team up with Supergirl and take on a new villain who promises to define this generation as much as Darkseid, Lex Luthor and The Joker did prior ones. Good luck, kids!
On sale MARCH 23 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

At the time, the proposed cover was unavailable, so solicitations ran with this bit of Jamal Igle art.

The revised copy read:
Written by JAMES PEATY; Art by BERNARD CHANG; Cover by Mahmud Asrar

You can see the published cover here.

Anj at Supergirl Comic Box Commentary investigated the matter, and received a color version of the unused piece from the artist. I very much prefer Reeder's cover, and I especially like the oversized brow. Miss Martian is very clearly a Supergirl type, so I like to see differences between the two emphasized. M'gann M'orzz as the more shy, less attractive, "geekier" of the two suits that end. I also dig the oddball assortment of teen heroes, since J'Onn J'Onzz has never turned his nose up at the lower rungs, and this is an interesting lot besides.

I love her style, especially the way she draws faces. This just reminded me that I really need to get around to posting the Amy Reeder J'onn J'onzz art that I own...or, rather, "John Jones."
