"J'onn J'onzz taking a break...somewhere (I have no idea where the counter and stool came from...he needs a real background...) with a book. And Ore--Chocos, of course.I'll be on a bit of a break myself for the next few weeks, and I don't know what kind of internet connection I can look forward to. The auto-posts are scheduled and in fact the content will be better without my presence than it has been the past month or so with me here.
Did I mention how much I LOVE the Martian Manhunter? And his trueform?
Martian Manhunter is (c) DC comics, although I don't think they know what to do with him."

"A few heroes of the Justice League International: Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Guy Gardner, Black Canary, Batman and the Martian Manhunter.
My first work with my new tablet. I love it so, but I am very obviously quite horrible as of yet. Someday, someday.
I am kidding about the title, Batman and J'onn would snap Ted's neck so fast the Flash would sue. But for serious guys, JLI is the greatest DC comic I have ever read. How have I gone my entire life not knowing about it? Shame on me. Shame."

I like this piece because if there had been a cheapjack Remco Martian Manhunter action figure back in the '80s, I think this is how it would have been put together. The chest and neck are one solid piece of black plastic, and the pelvis solid blue. Fairly nondescript boots, and everybody had gold bracelets back then. If it was good enough for He-Man, it'll do for Manhunter. New head sculpt, but stock harness and vinyl cape varied by color for cross-accessorizing. Packed three per case and available at the local K-Mart, but still a peg warmer, as is J'Onn's way...

"The seventh in a series of my version of the Muppet’s Justice League – Fozzie Bear as the Martian Manhunter, J’onn J’onzz. Fozzie was drawn with pencil on paper, and then inked using a copic marker. I then scan the image onto my computer and use Illustrator to colour between the lines."There's a whole gallery of the artist's Justice League of Muppets, plus a few Avengers. They're quite cute, but I have trouble thinking of a worse mash-up than Martian Manhunter and Fozzie the Bear. J'Onn's more of a Sam Eagle or Statler, right? Even Beaker would be a better fit.

When I look at Warner Brothers' casting decisions for upcoming DC movies, especially the painfully obvious replacement of Aquaman with an ersatz Namor by way of Jason Momoa, I'm thankful J'Onn J'Onzz remains outside the view of filmmakers so far. I suppose if WB could get Vin Diesel away from Marvel Studios, he could re-team with his Fast 5 frienemy Dwayne Johnson of Shazam, and I could go cry my fanboy tears in a corner. Regardless of that, this is a nifty animation, and you can see the larger static version here.

I like that this piece is done within the Timm model, but with its own flavor, and I haven't seen that pose before. You can see it in black and white here.
I love the Martian Manhunter and the near seven years I've put into this blog. Trying to get a weekly podcast off the ground has eaten up much of my free time, and I also feel that it would be best to make 2015 my last year of daily posting. Between these two fronts, the blog at present is suffering greatly. My usual method of generating a lot of filler material quickly is to go to deviantART, scroll all the way the entirety of a "Martian Manhunter" image search, and scrape the barrel from the bottom up. That made sense when I expected to work on this blog indefinitely, but I now realize I'm not doing readers or myself any favors by "saving up" for posting days likely never to come. That method also kills my enthusiasm pretty quick, as I shift through cruddy swipes, far off-center group shots, kindergarten refrigerator doodles, rampant shipping and pollution from other media I haven't the slightest interest in. However, because of my straining time, I still need a lot of easy pickings to keep the blog afloat, so basically, from here on out I'm giving up on being a comprehensive storehouse for every scrap of Martian crap and I'm just going to try to borrow the best of the web rather than make everyone suffer the worst. Life's too short, right?

The Witch Doctor's Tomahawk vs. Black Bison
Tomahawk
Debut: 1965
Nemesis: The White Man
Other Major Foes: None.
Appearances: One comic story
Powers: Emotion control
Bio:
An evil talisman which, when unearthed, would cause the descendants of the witch doctor to go on the warpath.
Win: 0
Lose: 0
Draw: 0
Vs.
Debut: 1982
Nemesis: Firestorm
Other Major Foes: The Flash Rogues
Appearances: 20+ comics.
Powers: Super-strength, speed, and magical animation of objects.
Bio: When his Native American shaman great-grandfather was murdered by muggers, John Ravenhair became possessed by his spirit and a thirst for vengeance against the white man empowered by a mystical talisman.
Win: 0
Lose: 0
Draw: 0
Idol Speculation:
#NotYourMasterVillainKemosabe. Given that these concepts were introduced less than twenty years apart, we certainly made some progress culturally. However, Black Bison is still offensive, he still gets used by DC Comics in an insensitive manner, and as a whole we've probably regressed in our representation of Native Americans since peak awareness in the '70s. Black Bison was dead for a while there, and if he could be buried in the same hidden location as the Witch Doctor's Tomahawk, we'd probably all be better off. Bison wins this, but we all lose for the match happening in the first place.

This is Claeir (pronounced Claire). She is the daughter of J'onn and Clark. I have this pet theory/headcanon that martians reproduce a lot like Asari. But I have a lot of pet headcanons for Martian society. But this is Claeir in her martian form. You may expect more with her and the others later. Enjoy."

The Giant Watery Hand of Gilgana vs. King Shark
The Watery Hand
Debut: 1964
Nemesis: Martian Manhunter
Other Major Foes: None.
Appearances: One comic story
Powers: Self-explanatory.
Bio:
Giant watery hand that could generate and regenerate in the waters of the weird world of Gilgana.
Win: The Fireball-Creature (3-1)
Lose: The Chulko (4-1)
Draw: 0
Vs.
Debut: 1994
Nemesis: Superboy
Other Major Foes: Aquaman, Jeannette
Appearances: 100+ comics and an animated film cameo.
Powers: Can function on land and in deep sea, regeneration, heightened senses, powerful teeth/claws, super-strength, super-speed swimming, and durability.
Bio: The son of the Hawaiian shark god and a powerful predator in his own right who has served on incarnations of the Secret Six and Suicide Squad.br />
Win: 0
Lose: 0
Draw: 0
Idol Speculation:
I considered pitting the hand against Naiad, or getting even cuter and going with Starro, but this seemed like the most fun and challenging match-up (plus I had good, accessible reference.) The hand didn't get to do much in its one appearance, so it failed to impress me. On the other hand, King Shark isn't especially thoughtful, and I don't see him doing much damage in a direct attack. Assuming this battle took place on Gilgana, King Shark would eventually wind up hitting the pink sand, and maybe figuring out its effect on the water hand. Then again, maybe King Shark would get blown to pieces while making that discovery?

I like this one the best of the three redesigns seen from this artist, but there's still too much typical science fantasy ornamentation that doesn't speak to the character of J'Onn J'Onzz, merely a mileau he's associated with.
