JLMay-- The JLA: Year One Podcast Crossover Event finally reaches our humble blog full force! Since everyone else partnered up to cover their chapters of the maxi-series, Diabolu Frank opted to call in his super buddies at Rolled Spine Podcasts for a sort of hybrid show! Illegal Machine and Pekita Trotamundos lend their voices to a radio play abridged adaptation of the tenth issue, while their fellow Mister Fixit sticks around afterward to talk for a bit about the Justice League of America!

From here follow JLMay to these fantastic podcasts! Each will cover different issues of JLA: YEAR ONE and each will come out in May! And don’t forget to use the hashtag #JLMay when discussing on social media!

Podcast- JLA: Day Minus-One (1977)

Episode #24

The Manhunter from Mars offers a supplement to JLMay-- The JLA: Year One Podcast Crossover Event! In the second edition of JLA: Day One Diabolu Frank discusses his (and apparently Comics Should Be Good's Brian Cronin's) favorite origin story for the team from Justice League of America #144 (July, 1977)! Another very important tale of the Sleuth from Outer Space, "The Origin of the Justice League - Minus One!" offers a prequel to the better known Silver Age story that firmly grounds the team (but especially J'onn J'onzz) in the paranoid 1950s McCarthy era America! This setting and the influence of the Steve Englehart/Dick Dillon story have permeated the Alien Atlas' modern interpretation, arguably having more impact on how the character is perceived by fans today than any comic that preceded it!

2016 CBR Poll: Who is Your Current Favorite DC Comics TV Hero?

Click To Vote!

There's a new poll up at Comic Book Resources asking which super-heroes based on DC properties (are they technically part of the DCEU?) currently on television are folks' favorite. Martian Manhunter as played by David Harewood on CBS' Supergirl series is just cracking the top 10, a mere seven votes ahead of White Canary as I type this (though it looks like somebody screwed up the coding and had her on twice, so she'd swamp J'Onn with nearly twice as many combined votes.) The Alien Atlas has a more confident lead over not The Atom, young master Bruce Wayne, Rip Hunter, Speedy, Arsenal, Firestorm and Hawkman. I'm happy to see him in the top half of a twenty count list, but he's so modestly behind iZombie and Jim Gordon that hopscotching over them would take the sting out of rating solidly behind an Arrow supporting character (Diggle.) You guys have until Sunday to help out with that (or failing that, at least help Supergirl overcome another Arrow supporting character, Felicity Smoak.)

Secret Origins Podcast: Justice League of America

Click To Listen!

As much as I would have liked to continue "JLA: Day One" this week, editing two hours worth of The Marvel Super Heroes Podcast Episode 054-- Captain America: Civil War (2016) ate up most of my free time, and I don't want a self-assigned "supplement" to take up oxygen when two more of the main podcast entries in the "JLMay" crossover even will be out today & tomorrow. Anyway, I've been meaning to mention my guest appearance on this prequel podcast...

Ryan Daly reviews the post-Crisis origin of the Justice League of America from Secret Origins #32, with a lot of help from Rob Kelly, Diabolu Frank, Chris Franklin, Chad Bokelman, and Keith G! Baker.

The Manhunter from Mars offers a supplement to JLMay-- The JLA: Year One Podcast Crossover Event! In the first edition of JLA: Day One (1961) Diabolu Frank discusses one of the single most important tales of the Sleuth from Outer Space, "The Unmasking of J'Onn J'Onzz," the solo story that made it possible for the Alien Atlas to join the JLA! We also look at the first version of the team's origin from Justice League of America #9 (February, 1962) with extensive critical commentary on the early years of the team and key revisions such as 1988's Secret Origins #32!
