2007 Miss Martian "Megan's Sketch Book of Mystery" by Ethan Van Sciver

Wizard Magazine and Marvel Comics' Ben Morse, blogger at The Cool Kids Table, tells the story of how his fiancé partially inspired the creation of Megan Morse/M'gann M'orzz in his post The Secret Origin of Miss Martian. You can read more about that by following the links, but as an added bonus, Morse offered this first entry in his wife's Miss Martian sketchbook. Over two pages, Ethan Van Sciver set a high bar for all that would follow, and gave us some nice natural form Green Martians besides!

You know, while his skills are undeniable, I never quite appreciated his stuff on GL or Superman Batman. But this is freaking mindblowing. It makes me want to give Teen Titans/Miss Martian the time of day. Any bloggin' plans for her in the works (Aside from this I mean)

EVS strikes me as the kind of stylist you want on secondary characters, because he tends to stray a bit from the ideal when it comes to the top tier.

I finally added "Miss Martian" as a keyword, but I have unrealized plans out the yah-yah, so no promises for now.

The art in The Sinestro Corps War really blew me away, and that started me liking EVS. (Of course, Reis is listed as a co-penciller for the issues I really liked, so maybe it's more Reis's influence that I'm drawn to.)

I must confess, I know very little about Miss Martian other than that she's a White Martian. I never got into the Teen Titans for whatever reason. (Probably because Nightwing irritates me.)

Must be pretty cool to have a superhero named after you....

I read most of Miss Martian's earliest appearances, plus some stuff here and there. Aside from her more interesting evil future self, M'gann M'orzz is Kara Zor-El saddled with J'Onn J'Onzz's JLA: Year One awkward relations with humans (see also: Mister Spock, Data, etc, ad infinitum.)

I also really like EVS's Black lantern MM. I agree he's not suited to "classic" versions the way Gary Frank or Doug Mahnke is.

Also, not having read basically ANY Miss Martian appearances, I've always wondered...is she the white martian left over from the most recent Martian Manhunter miniseries? If not, what happened to him/her?

Bat-confindence, meet brutal Martian wit.

EVS did a fine job on classic MM in Superman/Batman. I really wish I could access the synopsis I wrote & scanned on my "D" drive, if only to check on which issue(s) from that arc I still need to do. As for Black Lantern, what little there's been was good, but I much prefer Doug Mahnke.

Miss Martian: Rih Ron't Roh! I'd have to Wiki that, but I assume she was a leftover/renegade from "New World Order." Who actually read the last MM mini-series within professional circles?

m.s., thanks for the link! I'm juggling once again, so easy material is a godsend!

The one thing I do enjoy about J'onn-as-Black-Lantern is the costume, espeically the lines that continue down the legs and the headpiece. The torn cape is a wonderful touch. Not to say that I don't like his normal costume, though.

mathematicscore, that made me lol. Though I can't imagine J'onn being that mean. Well, okay, maybe to Batman...
