Despero's Super-Ship

A large robotic Super-Ship was used by Despero during his war against the planet Sirkus. Its metallic hide could resist super-human blows, though not indefinitely. The robot's groping "hands" could move with force enough to stun the Man of Steel. The dome from which Despero piloted the ship proved ineffectual in fending off a laser beam, however, and was shattered. From there, the Super-Ship was slowly dismantled, before crash-landing into oblivion.

First Appearance: Justice League of America #133 (August 1976).

I know that Wednesday is any day for all you care, but the DCU Holiday Special stole my 5.99 with some classic Martian Manhunter. Early days with Diane Meade, detective action with cladestine power use, and reasonable sap factor...what more could you ask! As a bonus, he gets 6 pages. That's two more than the Usurper!

It was written by Fred Van Lente, who I'd never heard of, but does a lot of work for Marvel apparently. A quick google search later and I found this http://www.comicrelated.com/commentary/er_013.html
Which only has one line of interest, but a very interesting one at that...

Eric: Do you ever see yourself writing for the distinguished competition? Any favorite characters over there that you'd really like to get your hands on?

FVL: Sure, I think Martian Manhunter could be a huge hit in the right hands. (Cough - mine.)

I don't know about you guys, but I am guardedly hopeful about this...

The exact same thing happened to me! Stupid comic shop!

I enjoyed Action Philosophers, but have only read a little of FVL's Marvel work. Good story, even if the stuff he pulled from Ostrander made me grind my teeth a little. I'll be running a synopsis on Christmas Day.

"There's something about starting our holiday story in a pool of a murder victim's blood that seems a tad miserly. I know! An 80's logo will lighten this right up!"

I feel the same way, mc, though I'll try not to get my hopes up. I think J'onn's time is past due.

Thanks for the heads up on the Holiday Special...I probably wouldn't have bought it otherwise. And sap is fine by me when it comes to Christmastime.

It is rather interesting for me to read the article. Thanks for it. I like such themes and everything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read a bit more soon.
