Martian Sightings for November, 2014

Martian Manhunter
AQUAMAN #36
Written by JEFF PARKER
Art and cover by PAUL PELLETIER and SEAN PARSONS
Lego Variant cover
On sale NOVEMBER 26 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
Retailers: This issue will ship with two covers. Please see the order form for more information.

Aquaman races to find his mother, who is suddenly very much alive – even though her presence threatens to destroy everything he has built in his kingdom!
The Alien Atlas is clearly on the cover, so why no mention in the solicits? Well, I'll buy that, as I dig both of these cats and am curious how their relationship dynamics have shifted in the New 52.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNITED #6
Written by JEFF LEMIRE
Art by TIMOTHY GREEN II and JOE SILVER
Cover by ANDREW ROBINSON
Lego Variant cover
1:25 Variant cover by ROD REIS
On sale NOVEMBER 12 • 32 pg, FC, $3.99 US • Combo pack edition: $4.99 US • RATED T
Retailers: This issue will ship with four covers. This issue is also offered as a combo pack edition with a redemption code for a digital download of this issue. Please see the order form for details.

The Infinitus Saga continues as a displaced Legion of Super-Heroes tries to prevent the destruction of the 31st century by killing Ultra the Multi Alien! Complicating matters is the fact that Multi is a young innocent in the current time period, forcing the Justice League United to stand in the Legion’s way!
I'd have liked to have seen Andrew Robinson draw J'Onn J'Onzz. Maybe next month's cover?

Miss Martian
TINY TITANS: RETURN TO THE TREEHOUSE #6
Written by ART BALTAZAR and FRANCO
Art and cover by ART BALTAZAR
On sale NOVEMBER 5 • 32 pg, FC, 6 of 6, $2.99 US • RATED E

In this final miniseries issue, Cyborg uses his connections to the Justice League to build an awesome new tower! But it just doesn’t feel like home. Can anything be done to get the old treehouse back?
Check out the Young Justice-y definitely not New 52 Martian Manhunter on the cover of this final issue.

Manhunter 2070
TWILIGHT TP
Written by HOWARD CHAYKIN
Art and cover by JOSE LUIS GARCIA-LOPEZ
On sale DECEMBER 24 • 160 pg, FC, $14.99 US

DC’s science fiction heroes star in this title collecting the 3-issue 1990 miniseries! TWILIGHT tells the story of how one of the Star Rovers became a living god when caught in an explosion with a race of immortal creatures called Methuseloids. It’s up to renegade hero Tommy Tomorrow to stop his former ally – but he ends up absorbing Sorensen’s power and becoming an all-powerful tyrant himself!

It is good that J'Onn is appearing in a few other places. I am not sure what DC plans for him. However, let's say that if certain people at DC retired to Tahiti, I would not mind.

Wouldn't that just make them worse?

I would like to see editors, writers and artists who know the characters and care about them and make them seem somewhat likable. I may be wishing for too much, Frank.

I agree that there was a need for a reboot, as some lines had written themselves into a corner. (Superman especially. You will believe that a Man Can Walk, after his people have been exterminated again.)

I don't think the people you named are the problem. I think it's a top down corruption at DC, and yeah, some of the creators who thrive in that environment are sleazy hacks. However, I think the majority of editors and talent do know and love those characters, and are doing their best to shield and support these concepts from wholesale prostitution by DC/Warners.

I think DC could have managed without a reboot, but if they were set on going that route, it should have been far bolder and better thought out. Andrew Leiland made the smart proposal of cancelling all but six titles for a year, and then putting all of your resources into building the DCU up from scratch with only their most essential characters and strongest talent. I would have bought those six comics for a year, and so would everyone else, and they would have all sold hundreds of thousands if not millions of copies. But we got the New 52 instead, and I look forward to ordering one issue of Aquaman and my regular Sensation Comics out of everything DC has to offer this month.
