History:
At some point in Post-Zero Hour continuity, Detective John Jones worked alongside another officer named Segretti before leaving the police force.

For a brief period of time a magical spell separated J'Onn J'Onzz and his human alter ego John Jones into two beings. Jones did not appear to possess a soul, and aside from telepathy, no super powers. In order to reassert himself into society and provide for himself materially, private eye Jones used his mental prowess to track and capture a serial killer. This brought Jones to the attention of his former police partner, Diane Meade, with whom he re-teamed for the raid of the property of a drug kingpin named Richard Guine. However, John Jones was functionally amoral, and sabotaged the raid so that he could elevate his star publicly by capturing the kingpin while making Meade appear fatally incompetent. Meade was hospitalized and her career imperiled. Jones did not emerge unscathed, as the mob had ties to Apokolips, which sent an assassin to kill the kingpin and destroy all evidence related to the case.

Segretti tracked down John Jones, demanding answers about where he got the tip that led to the deaths of Guine and multiple officers, as well as the destruction of his station house from an explosion in the evidence room. Jones wasn't talking, and when Segretti refused to let him go, John blackmailed him. Jones read Segretti's mind, and learned that he used to skim drugs from raids to keep for himself. Segretti shrank, allowing Jones his leave.

John Jones was injured by the Apokolipsian assassin Kanto, and while working with J'Onn J'Onzz on a case, left in a downed plane to be found by emergency personnel. Segretti showed up, and briefly threatened to murder Jones to keep him silent. Finally, Segretti confessed that he'd paid for his previous indiscretions, had been a good cop since, and wasn't willing to stoop to Jones' level. The duplicate had begun to develop a conscience, and feigned amnesia about the whole incident. Soon after "John Jones" was dead.

It should be noted that Segretti may have been intended to be Peter Santorelli, who appeared briefly in a later comic by the same writer, and/or Bob Segarini, who appeared prior to either.

Powers & Weapons:
Segretti carries a standard automatic handgun.
