Suiting the Sleuth From Outer Space #7
Here's a relatively safe design, essentially the classic costume, but with more flesh covered (and two shades of blue to offer contrast unneeded when the green broke it up.) The large figure is an Adam Hughes swipe, because I love the lengthy billowy boots he drew. There's too much blue, I still don't care for the red "X," and it doesn't bring into focus any aspect unique to the character. If anything, it makes the Alien Atlas more generic.
Here's some variations that incorporate the Manhunter Cult belt, which has a side effect of recalling the best known Martian Manhunter logo.

I'm still stuck on liking the "X," for no other reason than it's just been there so long. Even if other superheros have it (Hawkman, Adam Strange, pre-redesign), something about cross-straps just says "superhero" to me in much the same way that stipes down the sides of pants say "military."
Billowy boots a yes, and always was a fan of the cape-covering-half-the-shoulders look like you have here. More mysterious and different from Superman. And much more dynamic and visually interesting than the boring painted-on capped sleeves of the DCnU look.
I'm loving this whole fashion theme that's popping up here. I could get used to this as a regular feature.
