Martian Sightings for May, 2012

I don't have a lot to say about the individual comics this month because yuck. Aside from this blog, many of my others, especially DC Bloodlines, continue to run largely on nostalgia and force of habit. I am as disdainful of DC now as I was of Marvel by the mid-90s, because it's mostly the same industry wash-ups who ran Marvel into the ground back then. My God, Rob Liefeld is writing three books, including one reintroducing Cheshire as a sword-wielding ninja. Have you seen the new Warblade? There's a five-part crossover introducing a sub-Titans West team called the Ravagers written by Tom DeFalco? How about all those trade paperbacks of comics from last year that are completely out of continuity now, or the Infinity, Inc. trade revolving around versions of Huntress and Power Girl twice removed from present terms? I've decided to skip the "Second Wave" titles entirely, and I'm down to two DC subscriptions once the pointless Huntress mini-series ends. Please feel free to defend your DC reading, but I'd love it if folks used the comments to suggest non-DC/Marvel titles to try. For instance, I'm currently reading the first Hack/Slash Omnibus, and am enjoying it plenty more than anything out of the New 52...

STORMWATCH #9

1:25 B&W Variant cover by MIGUEL SEPULVEDA

• New writer PETER MILLIGAN comes aboard!
• APOLLO and MIDNIGHT battle RED LANTERN SKALLOX!

Oh good, Milligan's opening his stint on the book with a tie-in to another title I don't want anything to do with. Inauspicious. Did I say I was keeping two DC books? So far, anyway.

Non DC stuff worth reading-

Mark Waid's Daredevil.

Brubaker/Phillips Fatale; pretty much anything by that team.

Clevinger/Wegener Atomic Robo.

Fraction's Casanova

I don't feel quite the malaise about the DCnU as you have. Some of it has been better than expected. But other parts have been rough. Just like the last DCU.

And promise to get some work onto Bloodlines soon!

I tried the first Casanova trade and didn't quite dig it, but the rest of your suggestions are on my list to buy a.s.a.p.!
