I miss the old cerebral Despero who liked to demonstrate his chess-playing finesse to the Justice League. Sure, the new Despero can cause massive property damage and act like the DC version of Pink Hulk, but there's something really fascinating about a villain who was smarter than the writers who had to write stories about him.
Agreed. I think the physical changes were a good call, but the lousy costumes (and lack thereof) as well as the diminished mental capacity just made Despero crumby in the opposite direction. There aren't many strong/energy and smart/telepathic villains, a combination that would make Despero far more worthy as a modern League villain.
